My friend is currently subscribed to earthlink ADSL and currently has a netopia 3341-ELK modem. He recently bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless router w/ 4 port switch and connected it as a link between the modem and his computer.

With all TCP/IP settings on auto detect, his wired computer can gain access to the internet... However, the router seems to be nonexistent. I cannot access the default router page (http://192.168.1.1) even after resetting it. I also cannot detect any wireless signal with my IBM notebook.

When checking his ipconfig settings in command prompt, the LAN ip values all seem to be directed by the modem.

Why is this happening? Any help would be appreciated. :)

Edit : I've also tried inserting the setup disk the router came with, following all directions word for word. No help :X

Ok, let's check your cabling.
You should have an ethernet cable going from the netopia modem to the WAN or internet port on the router. Then you should have an ethernet cable going from the any of the LAN ports to the back of the computer. Is this correct?
