Hi all!

My mom's computer had lots wrong with it [it has slowed down to a crawl]. After running lots of programs to remove spyware and correct the registry, I cannot get the printer to print.

The printer is an HP Office Jet 7440. This printer is connected to other computers via a Linksys router. The other two computers [each using Vista Ultimate] still print fine, but after running registry clean up and various other programs, the older computer with XP keeps getting a print error.

Can someone help me help my mom?

Thanks,

Soar

Is the printer a network printer or hooked up to another computer and shared?

If it is a network printer can you ping it from your mom's computer?

First step. Uninstall and reinstall printer drivers/software.

Hef,

Thanks for your reply. The printer is hooked up to a network [printer and three other computers are all cabled into a Linksis router]. So I think it is safe to say this is a network?

How would I uninstall/reinstall printer drivers/software?

Thanks,,

Soar

Ok,

I deleted the Officejet 7400 printer as you instructed. Now when I try to add printer, the computer tells me it cannot find a printer by that name.

These are the exact words I receive when attempting to reinstall the printer:

Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server.

Special notes:

I did type the printer exactly as it was listed.
The two other computers do "see" the printer and can print and these computers are using vista not xp.

Please help me.

Thanks,

Soar

Ouch!

What next?

use the software that come with the printer or download the newest is the easiest. You have all of the drivers and could do it via it's ip but the software would most likely be easiest for you.

remember it was not working before.
