I just moved into a dorm room at Iowa State University and have heard that all torrents are illegal to download, regardless if it's copyrighted material or not. I was wondering if anyone possibly knows a way around this (tehy monitor and block/ban mac addresses). I'm on their network using my University ID, so I dont think a mac spoofer would change anything since they already have it categorized to my ID most likely. I have heard that mIRC downloads are safe.

Can anyone help me out here....

If your torrent client supports SSL, you can create a secure, encrypted tunneling to a server using SSL. SSL connects to the server on port 443 instead of the port 80 that plain http does, therefore the packet between the client and host are secure and can't be view or modified by any firewall. Port 443 can't be block because it's require by law that ISP and network have this port open.

Don't ask me how to do it, I'm simply giving you some idea. As a matter of fact I haven't toy around with torrent or SSL.
