I'm setting up FreeNAS on a box here at home to work as a local NAS. It's a headless BSD based server with a web gui. I obviously access the gui interface through a web browser... but I do wonder... I'm curious if I can get to the web gui of this NAS from outside of the network.

I tried forwarding both 80 and 443 to the IP the NAS is using right now, along with using both http://externalip and https://externalip in my testing. Nothing worked.

Where am I goofing up?

could be firewall....but, most likely, you isp is blocking this port to prevent ppl hosting websites on residential connections. in which case, change the port to something non standard.
