The performance of my firewall

Hi Forum,

I have installed an oracle database programme in my server (Windows Server 2008). I opened the 8080 port in the firewall (both Outbound and Inbound). To allow the programme through the Windows Firewall I added it to the "Exception" in the Firewall. The programme is connected to the internet on Static IP Address.

The problem I am having now is that unless I turn off the Windows Firewall, I cannot access the database on another computer. When the firewall in the server is off I can access the database alright but when it is on I cannot access it anywhere. Do I have security when my firewall is off?

I will appreciate someone's help

Regards,

Unless you are running server AV software or your network is protected in other ways, then no, you don't have security when the firewall is off.

I suggest you troubleshoot the issue with Windows firewall instead of leaving it off. Bear in mind that source port and destination port are not necessarily the same when configuring firewall rules.
