Parallel cable network problem

I have been working very hard to get a direct cable connection happening with my old Pentuim 100MHz and my new 3.0GHz P4. I have spent countless hours trying to get the proper drivers and whatnot and it has payed off, I am almost there. But there is still one problem.

I am able to connect using the parallel cable but once it connects it immediatly disconnects. No error, no nothing it just simply stays connected for about half a second then disconnects. The system I am trying to connect to is running Win95 and the other computer is running WinXP. I have tried making the other computer the host and the other one the client but it still does the same thing.

EDIT: Also, both the computer parallel ports have been changed to bi-directional.

Any help is appreciated.

Ok thanks, that helped a bit I can now connect but when I do it asks for a password. It says: "You must enter a password to make this connection"
I don't know what password it is asking, I have net no passwords. Any help?

can u just cancel that and log on like win98 used to be?

Nope, it wont let me connect if I press cancel.
