Notebook can't connect wirelessly to internet.

I have an HP notebook with a modem built in and a Linksys router. My problem is that I can't connect to the internet through the notebook, but I can perfectly through the desktop here, and upstairs.

At a friends house, who also has a Linksys router, the notebook will connect. I've disabled all firewalls I know of (Norton and Windows) and still the connection is not coming through. I've also disabled "Block Anonymous Internet Requests."

Does the notebook have any way to scan for active networks? Is anything showing up at all as far as a wireless connection on the laptop?
