no sound

I installed windows 98 SE on my machine. I tried playing an audio CD but no sound from the speakers.

When i go to start>programs>accessories>entertainment
and click on "volume control" the volume control does not show.
What did i miss ?

Do i need drivers to get the pci multimedia audio device working? if so then can someone tell me where to get free drivers?

check yr CD cable connected to the MOBO

yes cd cable properly connected

Might want to give some infor on the make and model of MOBO, sound device and such... That way people can get you more information.
