I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 running XP and I connect a USB wireless adapter and I could get internet but when I connect the Ethernet cable it doesn't get anything. I called my internet provider and they told me it doesnt need a CD installation that is just a plug n play. well if you need more information just let me know and thanks in advance. :D

Open Device Manager and check for any driver errors.
Start - Run - type devmgmt.msc - click OK

Check the Local Area Connection.
Click Start - Run - type ncpa.cpl - click OK
Does the status show connected,disabled,unplugged

Click Start - Run - type cmd - click OK
Once the command windows open type ipconfig /all
Once the command finishes right-click inside the box and choose select all
Post the results back here

When I go to devmgmt.msc I see a yellow question mark and I click it and it say Ethernet Controller.

On ncpa.cpl nothing is in that page, no icons.

And this is what I get when I did the cmd
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig /all

This means that you need to install the ethernet driver. You can get this from the Dell Support site.
