I have a friend who cannot access any websites (404 page not found) but AOL instant messenger works fine. Firewall is installed but disabled. Does not have SP2. The correct address is always displayed in the status bar in IE, so I don't think it's being redirected. I am troubleshooting this thing long-distance which is really making it hard lol. Seems to be a problem just with port 80. Any help here? Thanks.

I had the same a week ago. Turned out to be an ISP problem.
Check for the usual though (virus/spyware)
Re-install modem if neccesary.

I don't believe this is a problem with the ISP because this is on a university LAN and everyone else has no problem. HijackThis did report some New Dot Net entries and also some problem with LSP. After running LSP-Fix (http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm) the connectivity problem seemed to be resolved, but returned again after rebooting.

Like I said in my first post, instant messenger was the only thing working so I was troubleshooting via IM. Now my friend has not signed back on so I'm guessing she lost connectivity with AIM as well.

Finally got it fixed. Between HijackThis, LSP-Fix and several reboots, all is working now. Apparently the problem was the broken LSP chain due to Spybot removing NewDotNet spyware.
