Ok, is this NIC onboard the motherboard, or is it a PCI adapter....
If it is onboard, you should have a drivers & utility disc from the motherboard vender if you built the PC, or a drivers & utility disc from the OEM you got the computer from... (Dell, Compaq, etc. etc).
Go into your device manager and see if the NIC card is functioning properly, or if there is a little yellow triangle by it.
As far as installing things from Comcast, NOPE... don't need to, unless you connect DIRECTLY to the modem. I am ticked, cause I was FORCED to by a $10 'self-install' kit that contained nothing at all useful for me.
