Okay, so my roommate and I are trying to network our computers together. We have a crossover cable all is well we can see each other's computers. The problem is, we both have to be connected to our wireless network to transfer things. He has a bad wireless card and it disconnects very often. Am I wrong in thinking that when you network computers you don't need to be connected to the internet to transfer files? If there is a way to get around being on the internet (I hope there is) what is it? Thank you very much for your time.

P.S. We are both running Windows XP Home.

It sounds like Windows might be getting confused between both adapters. Trying to manage both without having gone through the network wizard first???? Maybe. How are you assigning IP's to the adapters with the crossover cable? Try booting both computers when connected without the wireless adapter enabled or plugged in if its a laptop. Establish good PTP and then try connecting to the internet.
