I need to connect 2 computers together to pull a file off one and save to the other. My problem is I have a computer I need to format, I want to save the driver files loaded on the machine to my laptop. This will keep me from having to search out the drivers to download. The machine that has to be formatted only has a CD player not a writer. The driver file is 15mb. Do I connect the 2 computers with a network cable or do I need a crossover cable. Both machines are running XP.

You can connect both machines directly to each other by using a crossover cable.

Make sure to run the networking wizard after connecting them because they have to be on the same subnet mask and same IP range to communicate with each other.

Let us know whats up.

You will also need to share the hard drives on one or both machines in order to be able to access them from the other machine.

Right click on the hard drive and select "Sharing and Security" and then follow instructions.
