Hi guys

At home i have a wireless router but despite that, 3 computers are wired to it and there are 2 laptops for the wireless connection..

SO the only way these computers are connected is via the router.

This means i can also use this connection as a means for network too, without affecting the internet connection right?

If yes, could you please tell me what options i need to change on the computers so they cal all be connected and share files?

Also most importantly, only 1 of all the computers in the house has a printer so i would like to use it for any computer on the network. How can i achieve that?

A step to step guide would be great for an amateur in networking..

All computers are on Windows XP

Thanks in Advance

Basically you need to creste a peer to peer network.
I will assume tahat all the PC's are windows xp
you need to create a work group or use the default name in windows . I think it is something like mshome.
Each pc or notebook that will perticipate in the workgroup will need an ( logon) acoount created on it . All of the other workstations must also have the other accounts on each machine. So if you have 3 PC's 1, 2 and 3 . PC 1 will also need acounts 2 and 3. PC 2 will need accounts 1 and 3 ...etc. MS recommends no more than 10 w/s in a peer to peer, you can see why.
turn off all firewalls, no encryption on the wireless ( set WPA or WEP after you are done)

try to keep from using win xp's automated network configurer

sharing a printer

...also you can either have static ip addresses or dynamic. Static would be you entereing in the ip, gateway, dns, subnet info on each machine, or you can use dynamic, which you probably are all ready using from the DHCP server in your router, where all the ip, dns..etc is automatically obtained.

thanks for the detailed reply

I will try to work it out tomorrow since its late here

take care
