I have this switch/router Clicky
I want to network a few computers together (2 nodes and 1 server running windows sever 2003) When i connect the devices to the router/switch and go onto the sever to set up domains and access rights all the router wants to seem to do is connect to the interent via the external link, none of the computers seem to be able to see each other its as if there not even connected even tho the lights are on.

What do you mean?

Are you trying to share files? What exactly are you doing, and could you be more specific and give more information as to what you are trying to achieve?

Ok sorry. I wanna set up the server as a file server so i can take stuff off it, back up stuff to it.

You could setup an FTP server or use file sharing method that windows comes with by just changing the permission so that the folder can be written to, then you would be able to backup the files to it.

Make sure (if this isnÂ’t a domain) that the computers are in the same workgroup and network.

I dont wanna set-up ftp, i want it to run as like most networks do, in the sense if someone wants a file they access it of the server and when they save it saves it to that server, then say at the end of the month a backup of the server is made.
The problem is, is that the computer cant see each other.

Can they ping each other by IP and name?

Are they in the same network? Are there any firewalls?

Yup they are connected to the same switch, the firewalls built into the switch

If they can't ping each other in the same LAN, than you might have the computers in different networks or that firewall is doing some blocking. Check your IP address by doing ipconfig /all in command prompt. You can post them for me to see. Don't worry about it, it's just private address, no body can find your network.
