Default NETGEAR GA511 Gigabit PC Card

I recommended the NETGEAR GA511 Gigabit PC Card to a teacher of mine because he was going on a trip and needed a wireless card to pick up internet from an internet cafe. He just told me that it's just "an adapter or for higher Ethernet transfer." What the frik? Is that true? If so I feel like an big fat idiot and am glad school is out :/

So you can't shove it in your laptop and connect to a wireless network?

-EDIT-

What about this one?
