I have two computers , one a laptop running windows xp pro and a desktop running windows 2000. I can see the shared files on the desktop from the laptop .However when i click to open a shared file I recieve the error you might not have permissions to use this network resource. I can see and access all the files on the laptop from my desktop computer. I check and both computers are members of the same workgroup.

Please help .

Disable simple file sharing on the XP Pro machine.

Right click on your share folder, select Properties, go to the security tab, add the "Everyone" group. Leave the default permission, click Ok to save. Same goes for 2000 and any other share folders.
