Hi,

I don;t much in the way of details, but a friend has just had a wireless network installed for his offices two PC's. One upstairs and one downstairs in the reception.

The problem is that upstairs the wireless signal is strong, and everything works, but the receptionists PC, always takes a long time to find it wireless connection, and then the signal is showing, more times than not as weak.

I am sorry for the lack of details, but can anyone help, in terms of any general reasons for this?

Or any quick test she could do?

Regards

Hey there wood1e,

There are allot of factors that could affect the signal strength the obvious one in this case is the floor. How far is the access point (located on the second floor) from the receptionist' area?

Remember the signal has to carry both horizontally and vertically to reach her PC.

What might need to be done is adding a second access point somewhere in the first floor. The two access points act as a signal boost so the first floor can have adequate signal.

Try downloading Network Stumbler it will help you determine the exact signal strength as well as any possible conflicts with other wireless networks.

Also, try posting in the main forum, this thread is used for "tips" you will not get a fast response here since it is used mainly for archival purposes.

Modz, do your magic!!
