Local Area Connection Missing?

Hi,
I have noticed on my cousins computer he is missing the local area connection. We have everything connected correctly, but we cant get internet on it? The local area connection wont even show up, only the 4494 conecction one. Is there a fix to this?

Check device manager - make sure it isn't disabled.

Then it isn't present, could be corrupt. What model motherboard do you have (assuming this is an integrated NIC card on the motherboard)?

Just download the updated drivers and try to reinstall. If that doesn't work the NIC is probably toast.

Okay well the whole computer is an HP Pavillion a1410n.

Now it just freezes at startup?

You have more of a problem than the NIC not working then, is it crashing to a blue screen or is it just locking up and not going any further than that?

Well, it would go to the screen where you can press F1 to go into Bios and just freezes there.

Wow so it's not even trying to load windows - try to verify it's not overheating, clean out the case and all heatsinks and fans. Reapply thermal paste if you have some (clean the old stuff off with a cotton ball and alcohol). If that doesn't work try loading up with just one of your RAM sticks (you may have to interchange them to see which might be causing the failure).
