I am writing this to see what can be contributed to this thread. I am hoping that everybody who participates in this thread can be reasonable and well-thought in what they write.
These have permissions, nobody but the Admin/root has full access to the system and a piece of software run as an underprivileged user can only access what the user can. They both have also had numerous security holes discovered and new ones are still being found. Both have exploits that allow underprivileged users to hit root level. Software on both platforms can also have security holes and allow security compromise.
One thing for sure though, there's very few Linux/*nix viruses and hella Win32 viruses. Spyware for linux/*nix is non-existent while numerous for Windows.
