Laptop Networking Problem

I've been having a networking problem for the past couple of months.. Every time I go on it connects to the internet but it won't allow me to get on the internet. It worked before, and now it just.. Doesn't work. Could anyone help me troubleshoot this problem please? In other info, the Laptop is an eMachines D620.

eMachine D620, sure it is not a Dell D620? do you have a router or do you connect to the BB modem directly, are you using wireless or a lan cable, if wireless have you tried connecting with a lan cable.
Asuming you have XP, click start run, type cmd, hit enter. Type in ipconfig/all then hit enter or click ok
...what is your ip address? also try typing ping microsoft.com . what are the results. Have you tried turning off then on your modem. do you have any firewalls turned on?
