I'd like to transfer data directly from my PC (Windows XP) to my laptop (Windows 2000). I was able to establish a connection via parallel ports, but how do I actually share files?

The mods for this forum will more than likely answer this for you... but I will try :)

You need to have one machine as the 'master' and one machine as the 'slave'. Although maybe the 2 different OS might cause some issues, they should be able to talk to each other easily.

If I remember correctly, once they are connected, the master needs to find the slave...

not sure this helps, but its been a long time since I've done it...

Get $10 NIC's and a crossover cable (the laptop maybe more like $20). WAYYYYY faster and a whole lot easier too.

as long as you have sharing open, just create a shared folder on 2000. Then map to the drive via \\whateveritsnameis\c$

c$ is a switch for the entire drive. not recommended if you want security, but it should be fine since its just to transfer.

Is the XP you are using Home or Pro.

Home :allows workgroups
Pro: allows domains

The easiest would be Win2K and XP Pro.

If you are using XP Home..I would just set up a work group..
