Hi

I need to join two cat 5 cables into one piece.

I can't run a new cable in one piece and I would like to run it at 100Mbits, wireless is too slow.

I'm trying to find the best method of joining the two ends, without destroying the signal in the cable and creating problems like crosstalk etc.

I was thinking of using waterproof connectors like the phone companys use, that way I could keep the twists in the 4 pairs.
The RJ45 couplers seem kind of cheap and its a pain to install RJ45 connectors to the cable ends.

Thanks

Goto your local exlectronics supplie store and get them for like $1 instead of being bent over and paying $5 for them. Staples has 10 foot belken network cables for $30. I can goto my place and get them for $11.50 after tax ;)

or you could remove the connectors and solder the cables together.... it works I did it while in the celing @ my company to save the hassle of running new cables.....

Hi

I ended up soldering the wires and sealing them with liquid tape.

The cable is working fine at 100Mbits so far.

Thanks for the info
