Your switch shouldn't be the problem, since it does nothing else besides "send signals" back and forth between your computers. If you still can't connect to your server using what is shown under ipconfig, try disabling any firewalls you might have installed. Windows SP2 comes with one enabled by default. Even if you're sure the firewall isn't a problem; I've had experiences in which it stopped me from pinging other computers.
