i want to get a a listing of all the hardware on my computers in my small home network that can get the serial # of stuff like memory, hard drive, cdrom etc.

Maybe try Belarc Advisor.

belarc doesn't give you serial numbers maybe if your lucky you'll get the model

I don't think anythings going to give the Serial number. Most equipment has the serial number imprinted on the actual device, not really a software issue.
