internet speed checker

Hi all btw i new
just to ponder really because i am really confused...i am one of the unfortunate who are crippled internet speed wise by Karoo. recently the prices for the interent have gone up but what is puzzling me most is when i used an internet speed checker it said my up and download speeds where around the 256kb mark yet when downloading files the average speed i get is 52kb.....whats going one...am i really getting 256kb speed or 52kb....could the speed checker be wrong...i tried a few but they all said the same

Are you sure it wasn't a capital B Your speed is 256kbits p/second (Small b) it could be reading 56kByte's per second (Capital B) As you may or may not know there are 8 bits in a Byte
