Lately I have noticed that my internet is running slow on 1 of the 2 computers I have at home. I have one computer wired into my router and one wireless. The wireless one runs fine, the one that is wired is running a lot slower. This problem pc is a lot faster than the wireless one so I don't believe its hardware I have comcast and a motorola wr850g router.

At first I thought someone was stealing my wireless so I called motorola and they had me setup some additional security and and gave me some advice. That didn't help.

Next I called comcast and they said my modem and everything else they saw was fine.

So I began to optimize my pc and do some test and so far nothing has helped. I unplugged my router and ran the modem straight to my pc and things seemed to work fast like normal for a few minutes, then slow again. I unistalled a few apps, ran hijackthis, spybot s&d, tried new ethernet cables and still things run slow on this one computer. I also ran tcpview and didn't really notice anything that just stuck out. There are a few times when things have worked normal but its only for a few minutes after a change, like unhooking my router or plugging my pc to a different port on my router.

Here is my hijackthis log.

Wow, forget all that junk. Here's what you need to do:

1. Press Start (start menu)
2. Press Run
3. Type "msconfig" in the text-box.
4. Press Enter
5. Click the Startup tab.
6. You see a list of programs that start on boot, remove mostly anything that doesn't have "C:\Windows\" under the Command list.
7. Keep unchecking all this crap, look at it again, make sure all the junk is gone. Reboot your computer and I guarantee a lightning fast increase in speed.

Make sure you remove all this anti-virus crap if any is in Startup, it is just something used to slow down crap.

It is also likely, that if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, it is loaded full of spyware and junk. Download Mozilla Firefox as soon as possible, set it as default, and never use Internet Explorer again (unless Firefox can not run it).

If this does not work, there are many other diagnostics, however, these two have ALWAYS been my problem. It is likely, no, above likely, no, almost certainly a software problem, not a hardware problem of any sort.

He said is internet is slow on 1 pc not slow at starting up, messing with what he doesnt know can affect programs tht need to be started and wont load up at start up n he gets error. your best off searching for virus torjan n spyware n rootkit

try kasparsky antiv virus 30day trial (very good)
try spybot and search google with online spyware scan there is 1 2nd down i think
AVG rootkit
ccleaner
try moving around your house or if it is a desktop tryin pulling the desk out

Bah whatever. Forget that crap. Do what I said, that is the only way it will be fixed. Forget all that junk, the only problem is his web browser is clogged. This will fix the problem, do both the steps and everything will be much more efficient. It's dangerous, if you don't follow my steps. Do not remove anything involving "C:\Windows\". Even then, I never tried removing every single option there, I could even see it not causing any damage, but again, I have never tried.

I actually decided to reformat my machine because it had additional problems as well. I had actually been troubleshooting this for over a week and tried everything and just said the heck with it. I had also tried most of what was advised. The internet is running much faster like it should now. It was definitely software based but I couldn't figure what it was or when I got it. Thanks for the advice.
