internet issue

Um. I'm pretty sure it's all software at this point because this exact
same computer worked on the internet before I erased the hard drive and reinstalled windows XP professional on it. It is ethernet. There is a router and other computers on the network and all the other computers work fine.

do you know the IP address of the router you are connected to?
what IP address is your computer getting?

START > RUN > 'CMD' > 'IPCONFIG'

Yes I do I have tried a static IP address and letting the router assign it one.
