internet doesn't start or shuts down

Hi,
I have a PT4 and my OS is Win XP Pro SP2 ( all updates included ).
First thing, when I try to connect to the ISP I often get the message: couldn't connect because computer didn't responde in time. I talked to my ISP but they said, there must be a problem with my OS. It seems to be true because after rebooting the com and connecting, the Internet works. But it works not long. Sometimes five minutes, somestimes half an hour. After that time the computer is connected to the internet, all devices working properly but no traffic goes on. I have to restart the computer and then it works again. Really annoying.
What could cause the problem?

If it is a problem with the O/S, try repairing windows. Run your XP disk in DOS, select to repair ON THE SECOND TIME IT ASKS and it will go through the whole installation process (don't worry, it won't touch any of your files or settngs - all settings, programs, files etc will be exactly as they were before the repair). You have nothing to lose by it (exept about 45 minutes of your time) and it may fix your problem.
