I have AT&T DSL that comes in on the phone line. I was given several filters, only one of which has two output jacks, one for the modem and one for the phone. I don't use the phone output because our phones are cordless. The base station, in another room, has a phone-only filter. I share my work laptop and my home PC using a KVM switch. I work remotely over VPN. When I answer an incoming call, about 50 percent of the time, I will hear a fluttering sound for about a second. I can be heard when this occurs, but I cannot hear the caller.
About 30-40 percent of those calls knock out my VPN connection and break the streaming audio. AT&T suggested I try a new filter, but neither of the two "techs" I talked to acted as if they had ever heard of the "fluttering" sound I hear. How likely is it that getting a new filter will solve this problem?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
