http download doesn't complete

Have been trying to solve this for two days now. Driving me CRAZY!!

When trying to download from, for example, download .com, my downloads nearly always stall, and never completes.

I would say I'm fairly proficient when it comes to all things techie(i'm a web developer) but this is beating me at the moment.

I've swapped out my Linksys wireless router for an old Belkin - NO CHANGE.

I've checked for spyware and viruses with all the major anti-spyware programs - NO CHANGE.

I've connected both via wireless, and wire - NO CHANGE

I'm running XP SP2, fully patched and packed.

I have a sneaking suspicion this is a virus, but can't found out!!

make another user account right quick and see if the problem still happens.

nope - no different.

forgot to mention - have already completely emptied Temp Internet Files and also run a winsock fix.....

Does this happen with all downloads ?
What browser are you using ?

Uninstall and reinstall IE

yep - all http downloads. not sure about ftp - maybe i should test that.....

using ie6, but also happens with things like virus definition updates etc.....

Are you running Anti virus or Zonalarm while Downloading ?

Does a 3 kb download act the same as a 300 Mb download ?

When did this start happenening ?

Try Using an alternate browser to see if there is any difference at all.

BTW: Have you tried what warez told you to try ?

zone alarm + nav.

started happening a couple of days ago. my family use this computer too sometimes so can't be completely sure that they didn't go onto a site and inadvertanly infect it, but there's nothing quarantined by nav.

download of any size are affected, although smaller files (< 500k ish) seem to complete a little more (like 1 in 10) instead of not at all.
