Setting up a home network with 2 or 3 PCs is very easy, especially with todays technology, routers, software, cable or dsl modems, etc.

BUT so many people get confused or don't know how to do it.

LET'S Change that!!!

I 'm looking for volunteers to help write out COMPLETE and Simple
instructions for doing the following:
((I guess we have a couple variations for brand and/or OS))

1) Linksys 4-port cable/dsl router, 2 computers, cable modem and Windows XP

2) same as 1 but on Linux --- someone tell me the most common config and (software - hardware)

3) Linksys wireless router, 2 computers with NIC cards and 1 laptop with wireless card

The idea of this "STEP by STEP" instructions is exactly that.
Tell and explain every little detail!!!!!
We need screen shots and detailed descriptions.

I hate finding a website that is supposed to explain or show you how to do something (like a beginner) EXCEPT the information is missing all kinds of details.

it says it's for a beginner, but they expect you to know a lot of networking terms and what DHCP is and other stuff you learn "after the fact"

what do you think?

i could create a very easy to follow guide since i can relate to the average computer user. i cannot explain linux setup though, have never used anything but windows and DOS. so if someone can be responsible for that section that would be fantastic.
