How do I tell a cross from a straight cable?

I know straight cables connect different types of hardware, when cross type connects the same type (e.g. PC to PC) now how do I tell the difference from the appearance of the cable itself?

I know when i got my crossover cable it was Yellow and had markings on it that read Crossover cable.

Best way to tell the difference is to hold both ends of the cable in your hands next to eachother, and look at the colors of the pairs in the clear plastic connector... (obviously, you need to hold them facing the same direction)... If the colors match exactly, it is straight-through cable, if 2 of the pairs are switched (orage, orange/white, green, green/white) then it is a cross over.
