how do i make my wireless safe?

no I know you are talking to the router from a computer. are you accessing software that talks to the router, or are you talking to the actual router.

the way I access my router is I type its IP address into a browser. from there I get MY routers settings and stuff.

WEP is not SAFE!!!!!! I cracked a WAP with WEP protection in under 2 hours with a crappy 233mhz laptop. MAC filtering is the only true protection.

This link explains what a MAC address is.

MAC filtering is just what it sounds like. You filter based on a MAC address, only allowing certain ones through.

Actually WEP can be cracked in under 10 minutes and with simple tools.

Take those MAC addy's and place them into the MAC filtering spaces in the router if it supports it.

Disable ssid broadcast,use 128 bit encryption.And unless you need to dont share anything that has sensitive data(such as hard drives)While encrypted networks are not neccessarily secure.Therte are soooooooooooo many networks that are totally unprotected.that are much easier targets......

Never hurts to have a network password though.Also dont use the default network ID.Dont make it too easy for them.

Key is to make yourself a less attractive pigeon than all the other pigeons.

Personally I am looking forward to the day I can leave a bad taste in their mouth...............

I use WPA and Mac Filtering, There are now hacking programs just for WEP protection.
