how to configure 2nd nic with another pc via crossover cable (win2k pro)

hi

i have a working lan at home (all are under win2k pro);i'm just playing around with adding a second around with this networking stuff; i'm trying to connect 2 pcs (both have 2 nics and both within the lan) via crossover cable and basically use that connection for lan transfer only to see if that lightens the load on the regularlan

the only thing i know is not to have them on the same subnet as the regular lan
so on that crossover connection, i set the ip of 1 pc to be 192.168.0.101 and 192.168.0.102 on the other and left the default gateway blank (the gateway for the regular lan is 192.168.1.1)

however, it's not working so far

please tell me where i went wrong

yes, i couldnt ping one another, pinging its own ip works tho

see if computer name of both computers has to be different & workgroup has to be same
