Help please

Okay, I just made an extra comp to use. I mean nothing fancy. It sucks balls, but runs smooth for email,internet, and music. On ther other side I got a well running comouter for all the hardcore stuff, DVD burning, gaming, everything else.

Now what I want to do is connect the two computer together to uhhh do whatever it is two computers do connected to eachother. Things is, I dont know how to get them both connected or how they detect eachother or anything. I'm 100% lost. All I got is one thing, my secret weapon:

And I do have cable ethernet with the box and ethernet line.

looks like u plug your USB in to the computer, the RJ 45 connects to your modem, Run another Usb cable to your other computer and connect it to the female side of the Cat 5\USB adapter
Make sure Your running 2000 or Xp on your computers
open network connections and either run network setup wizard or establish the connection manually

im no expert, this could all be wrong

AAAAHHHHHH!!!!
Please, do not attempt to setup ur LAN like this. Get a router and two ethernet cards, and save yourself a major headache. If you want to keep one computer off of the internet, you can restrict its access with the router.

Aww man, It's windows xp and 98(The suckier one) =/ lol So what do I do then? And I guess I should just get a router =/
