Help with network setup...

im somewhat disgusted with myself...always check the basics first

uninstalled and reinstalled the software for the ethernet adaptor and everything fell right into place. i didnt even have to mess with IP configurations. all 3 computers are online now (even the vista machine figured everything out on its own).

by the way...do you have any reccomendations for free firewalls? or is the windows firewall "ok"?

Odds are the wireless router has a built-in hardware firewall. Check with the owner to see.

he says it does, but i have no idea what brand the router is, and therefor the quality of the hardware. id rather be safe than sorry. and free firewalls are...well, free

Yeah it is always a good idea to run a hardware and a software firewall.
