my dad works at a precast concrete plant and he needs to get wirless out to a trailer and maybe some day palms. were nto sure exactly how far but we can guess at a minumum 500 feet and at a maximum 2000 feet(for the palms). the trailer is only about 600 feet(our guess). we picked a good spot for it. on top of a building. there shouldnt be to much in the way. i found one router but im not sure how to put it outside cause of the rain. and im not sure if a palm can pick it up. theres only gonna be like 3 or 4 computers at the other end. theyre old computers and the internet doesnt have to be super fast. they just need to be able to get online a couple of times a day. heres the one i saw.

I don't know if that model of router will do this or not, but you're correct. You do not want to put that outside. You will want to buy a model that allows you to unhook those little black antennas, and hook up a cable. This cable would then have to get run outside, to an antenna mounted on the roof of your building.

I'm currently at work, so I don't have a whole lot of time to find these products for you, but I'll do some looking a little later to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Edit: Here's a link to a wireless antenna that should work for you.

I'm going to suggest that you get a premade length of cable, otherwise you'll have to buy strippers and crimpers for this stuff, and a bulk roll of cable.

Here's a link to order a premade length (pdf file)

Here's a link to the different types of cable that you can use

It looks like the coax cable you use for cable tv. This is much higher grade stuff. Don't try using cable tv coax. I've tried it, and it doesn't work.

I'll have to do a little bit more looking to find a router or bridge that has removable antennas.

Sorry about that. I've been a little busy at work, and haven't had a whole lot of time to research them.

I found a wireless router that says it has detachable antennas. It's through best buy, so if you do some looking, you can probably find a better deal than this.

The only thing that I don't know is this. You might need what I call a pigtail. This is a short cable that has two different sized ends on it. I think hyper link tech will also do different ends on the custom cable. You will probably have to do a little research on this yourself.
