help with internet connection

hi everybody, my computer's internet won't work (not WLan or WIreless), it says that it failed to renew my IP address, does anyone know wat I have to do to fix it?

WLAN is wireless..... Can you describe the topology of your network? Have you made sure the wireless router is turned on? Before troubleshooting the internet connection, you need to get your computer talking to the router. What kind of router are you using?

yes the wireless connection I use is working, but nothing works... how do I explain this... um I cant use any form of internet, wireless or ethernet because it says Limited or No connectivity and then it says I need to renew my IP address I think I have to set the IP address manually but I have no idea how to do that
