I have purchased the smc barricade plus smc 7004 fw, and now it seem to be a problem that I can't connect to the router. I was currently using two computer the problem is the one that using win2k(but the problem has occured to winxp too). after I tried to add a protocol in this land which is "NWlink IPX/SPXNETBIOS COMPATIBLE TRANSPORT PROTOCOL" a question mark appear in the LAND icon saying problem with the connection, and i realized that the ip in the status becomes 0.0.0.0 , i use the repare function, it becomes 169.254.xx.xx instead of originally 192.168.2.101, I used the setup of the original cd but it saying time out and tell me to reset the router, I did it hundred times but don't seem to have any progress. I ran the installation on another computer(this computer) it works. but that one still don't, even i ran it again in there. this problem had happened before, I formated it, than it work normally again is there any way I can do instead of format? I had tried anything i can, but was useless, and it seem to me a big problem(that i can't online),can anyone please provide me any help? thanks very much in advence.

P.S: please note that i have posted
this letter in other forums in order to
get more help, I'll post back on every
post if i've got help.

First, just make sure that TCP/IP, Microsoft Networks, Your Adapter and File and Printer Sharing (If you need it) are the only items under the properties of your LAN connection. After you confirm this, turn off your router. Make sure that you LAN connection's TCP/IP properties are set to Automatically receive an IP address from the DHCP server. Disable the LAN connection after you confirm everything is setup correctly. (Right click the LAN connection and click Disable). Reboot your computer. While your computer is rebooting, plug the SMC in and just let in wait. After the computer comes back up, goto your LAN connection and rick-click it and Enable it. Do you have a link light on the Barracade?
Hope this helps.

now it don't work

after all, this method had helped me sooo.... much, almost for any network logic(none physical)related problem that neither repair nor ipconfig /renew or any related method can fix, it works, but now, i don't know why, even though i used this method fixed many other networks besides mine, now, the same problem had accured to my pc again, and tried several times using this method that could fix, while i am enabling it, it saids: Enabling..... (seconds later) it saids, failed to enable, and the ip remains 16X.XX... btw i had a redhat installed at this same machine using dual boot, and i am using it now to post, which means it is physically perfect, it's just about the windows. can anyone help?

Yeah it looks like you have a bad card or cable. When you get an ip of 169.xxx... it usually means there is a bad connection. Try swapping the cables first then try the cards.

that can't be, because i am using this computer to online, RIGHT NOW, but just using another operating system, I used linux and windows, the windows doesn't work, but the linux is perfectly fine, so there are not way(i think) it is a hardware problem.:(
