having trouble connecting wirelessly to router

my laptop is a hp pavilion dv8233cl
it recently crashed and the OS was corrupted beyond repair, i reinstalled windows xp but i cannot connect to the internet now (wirelessly)
i have a netgear router, when i hardwire the laptop to it via ethernet, i get my internet, but its a no go when i do it wirelessly.
i reinstalled the drivers, restarted everything and still no avail

any suggestions?

does your wireless router have encryption turned on? If so have you inputed the key on your new machine. Can you see any wireless networks? Did you install both the wired and wireless drivers on the computer?
