having people online connect to your LAN?

My college has its own ip4 system or something like that that I can't forward my ports which means that I cannot host my computer game. Lately, I've just been playing LAN with my colleagues.

I was wondering, is there a way to have my own LAN network in college and having people all the way from CALIFORNIA connect to my LAN online? Let me rephrase that, I will be connected to a network via router and I want certain ppl online to connect to my network so we can play the same networked game.

I bought a wireless router to cover the laptops and in hopes to forward certain ports but it won't let me forward ports.

please give me detailed steps on how I would achieve getting this thing done.
