gigabit connection

I am having a brain fart so here is my question.

I have all 100mb switches and cards right now. My new computer has gigabit lan. If I get a gigabit switch and replace the card in one of my other computers, will those two computers talk at a gigabit even though there is a 100mb connection that will be connected to the NEW gigabit switch coming in from my main router in the other room which connected to my cable modem?

the switch will provide a direct path between the two machines. When communicating directly with each other, you should experience gigabit speed.

Yup, the two computers should communicate at 1000Mbps as long as you have it all set up correctly.
