Free easy way to set up VPN at home?

I was looking into encrypting all of my traffic on my home network from browsing, games, downloads, etc. and to also be part of my LAN while I am away so that I can access shared printers and files. Is there an easy way for me to do that? All of my computers have Vista on it and only 1 has XP.

I use Hamachi from Logmein.com. It works fairly well. The speed could be better with another program but it does what I need it to do. Plus it is free as well.
