Default Fixed Wireless speed problems...

I have a fixed wireless form of connecting to the internet. Cable/DSL is not available at my house (i live on a farm, and unlike most farmboys, I hate the farm life.) Sometimes my speed is great and I download at about 140KB/sec, but lately my speed has dropped to like 10-20KB/sec, maybe even slower sometimes. And web pages take so long to load. I have contacted my ISP but they aren't interested in fixing it. They tell me that is a normal part of any high-speed connection (*sarcasm* yeah, right). I have looked on the internet about services like mine and they all say rain/snow/hail can affect connection speed, but what about wind direction? Is there anything I can do to maybe help my connection?
