TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

This is exactly what i did :

http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497

In the program, when i pressed "C" to change the current limits, it reads "please enter the number of concurrent half open connections <10-16777214, esc = auto 10/50>"

Was wondering if my speed would be faster(or even better) setting it to 16777214, instead of the advised 100 (advised from many of my friends).

Download speed is averaged to 13kb/s, which is believe is very slow. If this is the so-called advertised speed, mine is supposed to be 512.

usually this is based on your isp. I have a few questions first.

What OS are you running?

Do you have alot of network traffic and or servers on your network?

What network medium are you using (all), such as modems, hubs, routers, switches, etc?

please let me know so i can further help you.

Im running on win xp sp 2

Not alot of network traffic. Im actually behind a wired router, shared between me and bro. Bro being the server.

Supposed to be wireless for me, but cabled it up for better connectivity.

okay, check with your ISP first to see how much bandwidth you are allowed.

I would also remove the setting you did in that forum article. In other words, take your networking card back to the defaults.

Also, does your brother do alot of downloading, simutaneous downloading. If so, that could be a very good possiblity right there.

Simultaneous downloading can bring a network down soo fast. Although you are using a router. please let me know.

Nope, my bro doesnt do alot of downloading, infact he does nothing except playing maple story =p

If i remove what i did in the article, i get disconnected every 10-15 mins cos of half-open concurrent limits.

Also, just to squeeze another problem into here instead of opening up a new thrend, I've very slow download and uploading speed despite using dsl cable.

Any clue what could be the problem?

Alrighty, lets see here. I need you to do something for me. I need you to go into the event viewer. You can get there if you to to Start --> Run --> type EVENTVWR --> press OK -->. Look in the System log for errors or warning. If there are any related to TCP/IP, please post them.

Please post your results, thanks.

alright, you need to go back to that website you got the infrmation from (speedguide) and download the patcher program, unless you still have it.

Then you need to restore tcpip.sys back to the original... so that it goes back to the default settings. This should work. If you still want to mess with the TCPIP stack later you can, but if this works, then you at least know how to back out again.

hope this helps. Let me know what happens.

Hmm, actually i downloaded that patcher initially cos my half-open connection was at its original, 10. And i keep getting disconnected every 10 mins or so, my event viewers were filled with errors. Its only until i increased to 100 that i dont disconnect at all, and that non of the errors came up, but only "warnings" as shown above.

Appreciate ur time =)
