Ethernet Card Trouble

could anyone help me? when i directly connect my ethernet card to my modem it wont renew the ip adress but when i connect it to the router everything is fine is there anyway i can force the ethernet card to renew?

that's becaues your modem doesn't have DHCP, but your router has.
