I haven't had any luck searching for an answer but I think it is because I am not sure how to word the problem.

I hooked up an old LAN router when my wireless router took a dump on me. The connection works fine for both my desktop and my wife's laptop. But on my desktop certain webpages cause my internet connection logon window to pop up. It happens in both IE and firefox. To top it off, while that logon window is up, my internet connection pretty much comes to a halt. I have to hit cancel and then everything is fine. It is getting really annoying.

My guess is that some kind of script is checking for an internet connection, it doesn't see the connection for some reason and it automatically pulls up the logon window. I tried suspending java and flash, but the problem still happened.

My router is set so that the DSL connection is always on.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can make this annoyance stop?

Odds are you will have to delete the old connection setting in your connection settings.
