DSL filter

I want to restart my DSL service. I have the modem, but don't have the wall mount for the phone line. Is this a problem? I use a cell phone, so I don't have a home line. As such, interference with taking calls wouldn't be a problem. I can't find information on what exactly the mounting does, so I don't know if it's essential for the modem to work. I'd rather not buy anything extra. Does anyone know?

If you don't have any phones connected than a filter is not needed.

Yeah, the filter is just to filter the DSL signals from the analog voice signals over the same phone line.
