domain configuration

hi,

I have registered my domain name. Now i have to configure my server 2000 as domain server.

How would i configure my network card to configure my domain?

I've two network cards on server.

I am using my ADSL router as hub to connect my work station which acts as DHCP server.

Is it ok to use the same router for Intranet and Internet?

How i setup the ip address,dns and gateway?

Any help would be appreciated

Who did you register your domain name with ?

you probably want a private ip and put your server behind a firewall. If you want a web server exposed to the internet than see if your router supports DMZ.

Your local server the gateway is the router ip
enable dhcp on the server
turn off dhcp in the router
make sure the server / dns ( can be on the server) have static ip's
make sure all the w/s have auto ip address and dns

i've registered with 1and1.co.uk

The issue is another MAC is connected to router to use internet.

Now i configure my router with specific range of IP addresses to work as dhcp and configure my server with static ip will it work?

i m testing my server and eventually i m planning to put it as webserver

They do and very cheap but i m just trying to lean eventually i am not going to host my own website as i haven't got that much time but still i want to know.

One more thing i would like to ask how do i get real ip to configure my VPN?

i have got server 2000 installed on my system and i am using adsl router to connect to internet

The 2000 server can host VPN without any special configuration from your ISP.

Its not the easiest thing to setup but there are documents out in the interweb which can guide you step-by-step.

Google it and see what you can find.
